  • Do I have to be naked?
No, not completely. We will need you to undress from the waist down, including your underwear. I know it can be a little nerve wracking for you but please remember; we do these EVERY day ALL day. We do our very best to put you at ease, so please don't feel embarrassed. It will be over before you know it.
  • I have my period! Do I need to cancel?
No! Not a problem. Just use a tampon and we work around it. Honestly, it happens all of the time.
  • How often should I wax?
The average is every 4 weeks. That estimate holds true for everything: brows to Brazilian to underarms. Because our hormones dictate our hair growth, some clients may experience slower or faster rates of growth. We can schedule accordingly. Your esthetician can help you gauge when you should return.
  • What kind of wax do you use?
We use the absolute highest quality wax available. For sensitive areas, such as the face, underarms, and bikini area, we use a hard wax. A hard wax melts at a lower temperature, is applied in a thicker layer, and is removed without a strip. The advantages of using a hard wax is that we can go over the area multiple times without causing irritation, and it is excellent for delicate skin. For larger areas, like the legs and back, we use a high quality soft wax, which is applied thinly and removed using pellon strips.
  • Does waxing cause ingrown hairs?
Possibly. Some people get ingrown hairs no matter what method of hair removal they choose. Aftercare is half of a good wax! Be sure to ask your Esthetician what they suggest you use for exfoliation.
  • Will I be absolutely smooth after my first wax?
It's possible but not likely. Some clients are "smooth as a as a great pick up line" after their first experience. However, it is common that after the first wax or two you may feel a bit of stubble. This occurs most frequently with clients that have thick, dark and coarse hair. Leg waxing is the most common area that this happens with. Because your body has three different hair cycles, each lasting approx. 4-6 weeks it is important to wax consistently every 4 weeks the first three to four times you wax so that you can get each hair cycle on its own waxing schedule. After the third or fourth wax you will find you are smoother for a greater length of time than when you started the waxing process. Everyone's body is different and therefore will have a different experience.
  • Will it make my hair grow back darker and thicker?
Not at all! If you think about it, when you shave you are cutting the hair off at midshaft, which is the fattest part of the hair. So when it grows back it appears as though it's thicker and darker but it's not. When you wax, the hair is removed at the root and therefore a new hair will grow from that follicle. Waxing does not cause you to grow more hair follicles or change the pigment of the hair. In fact, if you become a regular waxer, you will notice that your hair will become quite sparse and not as coarse.
  • How much does a Brazilian hurt?
I' m not going to lie. It's not fun, but it's nothing you can't handle. It's quick and any pain experienced diminishes in minutes. It's like a band aid being ripped off. The anticipation is the worst part. The average Brazilian wax takes between 10 and 30 minutes. It depends on how much hair the client has to remove. The next thing you know you will be saying, "That wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be".
  • What if I have a really low pain tolerance?
We suggest taking a mild pain reliever like Aleve or Tylenol 30 minutes before your appointment. This can help to lessen any pain you may experience during your services.
  • How long does it take to do a Brazilian?
It all depends on the client. Usually 10-30 minutes. The first time is the longest, and then the monthly maintenance is much faster.
  • Why should I wax?
Waxed hair grows back smooth and fine, unlike the stubble that grows back when you shave. Each time you wax, the hair follicle weakens and can eventually die, leaving you with less hair. Waxing also lasts significantly longer than other hair removal methods.
  • Is waxing sanitary? Can I get an STD?
Extremely sanitary, and absolutely not a chance. Wax is antibacterial by nature. It is impossible to transfer anything during a wax. All tools are sanitized using a high grade sanitizing solution.
  • Anything else I should know about waxing?
You should refrain from using waxing as a hair-removal method if you are using Retin-A (currently or in the last 3 months), Isotretinoin (currently or in the past 4 months), other keratolytic medications (that increase skin exfoliation), or are sunburned or recovering from a recent laser or chemical peel. Also, if you have received Botox, Juvederm or any other injectible less than 72 hours prior to waxing please let your esthetician know.
  • What about the Male Brazilian?
We remove all of the hair from the male bikini area, the scrotum, and the butt crack. This does not include the glutes, but we can certainly add that to your service.
  • I'm scared! Can my friend/spouse come into the appointment with me?
Our policy at Zanella's Wax Bar is to allow only the client in the treatment room. We have found that this allows us to give the absolute best and most professional service available.
  • Can I bring my child in the appointment with me?
It is completely a personal decision. If you have an infant and they are comfortable in their car seat or a child that can occupy themselves during your appointment, then absolutely . However, you are our main focus during your appointment. We adore children and sometimes inquisitive children may touch hot wax pots or get in the way of a perfect brow wax.
  • How important is it that I am on time for my appointment?
Very! We value our guest's time and we stay on schedule when it comes to our appointments. We are also usually fully booked. If a client is more than 5-10 minutes late for an appointment, we will usually have to reschedule. Although that may sound strict, if we take a guest late, chances are we will be late for the next appointment and thus creating the domino effect. Please call if you are running late to find out if we will still be able to take you or reschedule. Additionally, we want you to have time to relax and take a breath before your appointment. At Zanella's Wax Bar, it's all about the experience!.
  • What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is an effective and safe exfoliation procedure. It uses a sterile surgical scalpel to shave the surface of the skin to remove excess dead skin and vellus hair (peach fuzz). Added benefits include, diminishes the look of fine lines, safe for all skin types, smoother skin and removes soft facial hair that traps dirt and oils. Instant results and no downtime.
  • What's your scheduling/cancellation policy?
Scheduling Policy We are by appointment only however if you are in the neighborhood and walk in we will do our best to accomodate you if time allows. If you are under the age of 18 you must have a parent accompany you to your appointment and sign our waiver giving permission to provide waxing services. When making an appointment we will request a credit card to secure the appointment. We will not charge the card at this time. If there is a breach of the cancellation policy we will charge the card (please see cancellation policy). Cancellation Policy We value your business and appreciate your cooperation with our cancellation policy. Please respect our scheduling by keeping appointments whenever possible and providing a minimum of 24 hours notice when canceling or rescheduling appointments. Please understand that when you forget or cancel your appointment without giving enough notice, we miss the opportunity to fill that appointment time, and clients on our waiting list miss the opportunity to receive services. As a courtesy our appointments are confirmed 48 hours in advance via email because we know how easy it is to forget an appointment you booked months ago. However, if your email isn't checked with regularity, your email address has changed or the reminder has gone to your spam filter it is still the responsibility of the client to know when your appointment is so that you can avoid late arrivals, no shows or cancellations. Because your services are guaranteed reservations reserved for you, 50% of your service payment is required for the following conditions: Less than 24-hour notification to cancel or reschedule an appointment. No-show or missed appointments. Late arrivals - please keep in mind that arriving late for a service may require us to shorten the length of the treatment, with full charges applied, so as not to inconvenience other guests. We regret that late arrivals will not receive extension of scheduled appointments. Habitually rescheduling, arriving late or missing appointments we will ask that you pre pay 100% of the service when making the appointment. Thank you so much and we appreciate your business.
